スウェーデンの現行アンダーグラウンド・ミュージック・シーンにおいて、最重要人物のひとりであるDaniel Ögren（ダニエル・ウーグレン）。カルテットDina Ögonのメンバーとして、またソロとしてもすでに8作をリリースしており、その豊かな音楽キャリアが国内外で注目を集めている。

本作『Fastingen-92』は、もともと2020年にインディーレーベルSing A Song Fighter Recordsから限定アナログ盤としてリリースされた作品。同レーベルはDina Ögonを最初に紹介したことで知られており、まさにその始まりとなったアルバムでもある。Mr Bongoが本作に出会ったのは、ストックホルムの老舗ジャズクラブFaschingでDanielのソロ・バンドのライブを観たのがきっかけ。そこにはLove ÖrsanやChristopher Cantillo（Dina Ögon／Sven Wunderでも活動）が参加しており、ジャンルを飛び越えるその演奏に心を奪われた。すでに廃盤となっていたこのアルバムを、より多くのリスナーに届けたい——そう強く感じた瞬間だった。

『Fastingen-92』は、ジャンルに縛られない自由な作品だ。南米フォーク、ソウル、北欧の民謡、映画音楽といったDanielの音楽的ルーツが溶け合い、夢のようで、時に変容的なサウンドが広がる。

なかでも注目は、エフェメラルなヴォーカルが印象的な「Idag」。Anna Ahnlundを迎えたこの楽曲は、Dina Ögon誕生のきっかけにもなったという美しく壮大なシネマティック・ナンバーで、今ではカルト的人気を誇っている。また、「Annalena」や「Kristinehamn by Night (for Christopher)」では、まだ誰も名前をつけていない新しいクラブ・ミュージックが鳴っており、神秘的で催眠的な音像は、まさにNicola CruzのDJセットで流れていそうなサウンドスケープ。

「Maj (for Tintin)」や「Picasso」では、スカンジナビアの空気をたっぷり吸い込んだバレアリックな世界が広がり、Danielが自然から受けるインスピレーション——特にスウェーデンの地形や風景に根差した音楽的感覚——が随所に感じられる。それらはどこか懐かしくもあり、時代も空間も超えた音の旅へと誘ってくれる。

Anna AhnlundやChristopher Cantilloに加え、「Idag」ではJosefin Runsteenがドラムを担当。さらにEdvin NahlinとUlrik Ordinといったスウェーデンの注目ミュージシャンも参加しつつ、大部分はDaniel自身によって演奏、録音、ミックスされている。Mr Bongo版では、デジタル限定だったボーナストラック「April」を追加収録。魂に染み渡る、まさに“発見”の一枚。

Daniel Ögren is one of the most vital figures in Sweden’s contemporary underground music scene. With a discography that already includes eight solo albums and his acclaimed work as a member of Dina Ögon, Daniel’s output continues to defy categorisation and deliver beauty in unexpected forms.

Originally released in 2020 as a limited vinyl pressing on the boutique label Sing A Song Fighter Records (the label that first introduced Dina Ögon), Fastingen-92 quickly became a cult favourite. Mr Bongo was introduced to the album after witnessing Daniel’s live band at the iconic Stockholm venue Fasching—a jaw-dropping performance that featured Love Örsan and Christopher Cantillo (of Dina Ögon and Sven Wunder fame). The moment we heard it, we knew this out-of-print gem needed to reach more ears.

Fastingen-92 isn’t confined to one genre—it’s a rich tapestry drawn from Daniel’s love of South American folk, Nordic traditions, soul, and film soundtracks. The result is something dreamlike, immersive, and emotionally resonant.

Highlights include “Idag,” a stunning cinematic piece featuring the ethereal voice of Anna Ahnlund. The track has gained a devoted following and, according to Daniel, was the spark that led to the formation of Dina Ögon. Elsewhere, “Annalena” and “Kristinehamn by Night (for Christopher)” sound like club tracks from a future yet to exist—hypnotic, mysterious, and deeply engaging, the kind of sounds Nicola Cruz might spin. “Maj (for Tintin)” and “Picasso” drift into blissed-out Scando-Balearic zones, capturing Daniel’s deep connection to nature and the Swedish landscape.

Alongside contributions from Anna and Christopher, the album features Josefin Runsteen on drums for “Idag,” and Swedish musicians Edvin Nahlin and Ulrik Ordin. Yet the majority of the record was played, recorded, and mixed by Daniel himself.
