このたびMr Bongoより、ブラジリアン・ブギーの金字塔『Marcos Valle』（1983年作）を再発できることを心から嬉しく思います。伝説的クラシック「Estrelar」を収録した本作は、あのネオン輝くカクテルとピンクのVネックTシャツ姿のマルコス・ヴァーリがジャケットを飾る、1980年代の眩しさを封じ込めた最高のヴィンテージ。

プロデュースを手がけたのは、ブラジル音楽界の巨匠リンコルン・オリヴェッチと、兄のパウロ・セルジオ・ヴァーリ。Rosana、Serginho Do Trombone、Robson Jorge、Oberdan Magalhãesなど、当時のブラジル音楽シーンを代表するミュージシャンたちが多数参加しており、その豪華さはまさに“誰が出ているかわからないくらい全員出ている”レベル。

本作は、ロサンゼルスから帰国後の2作目であり、アメリカ滞在時の影響が色濃く表れている。ブギー、ソウル、ファンクを中心に、MPB（ブラジル・ポピュラー音楽）やポップ・エッセンスも絶妙にミックス。中でも「Estrelar」は、米国のシンガーソングライター／プロデューサーLeon Wareとの共作で、アルバム中でもひときわ輝きを放っている。そのほか「Fogo Do Sol」のようなAOR／バレアリック路線の楽曲も収録され、リスニングにもダンスフロアにも映える完璧なトラックリストに仕上がっている。

このアルバムを“決定版”として再発するため、マスタリングはAbbey Road Studiosの名エンジニアMiles Showellに依頼。彼は以前、Mr BongoのArthur Verocai再発盤でもハーフスピード・マスタリングを担当し、その高音質が大きな話題となった。今回もその技術を惜しみなく投入し、音の厚みと広がりが格段にアップ。まさに“聴こえていなかった音が聴こえる”体験を提供してくれる。

リリースを記念して、通常マスタリング盤とMilesによるハーフスピード盤をブラック・ヴァイナルで用意。さらに、あのジャケットのネオン・カクテルにインスパイアされた限定ローズ／ミントグリーン・カラー盤もラインナップ。これぞ80年代の贅沢そのもの！

Mr Bongo is thrilled to reissue Marcos Valle (1983), one of the most iconic Brazilian boogie albums ever made. Featuring the cult classic “Estrelar” and adorned with that unforgettable cover—Marcos bathed in sunlight, pink V-neck glowing, surrounded by outrageously vibrant cocktails—this LP is a pure slice of ’80s magic.

Produced by the legendary Lincoln Olivetti alongside Marcos’ brother Paulo Sérgio Valle, the album boasts a who’s who of Brazilian music royalty. With contributions from Rosana, Serginho Do Trombone, Robson Jorge, and Oberdan Magalhães, it’s a showcase of top-tier talent at the height of their powers.

This was Marcos’ second album after returning to Brazil from Los Angeles, and that West Coast influence is unmistakable: boogie, soul, and funk grooves lead the way, supported by moments of MPB and sunshine pop. US legend Leon Ware co-wrote three tracks, including the timeless “Estrelar.” Elsewhere, songs like “Fogo Do Sol” bring smooth AOR/Balearic warmth, rounding out a perfectly balanced record equally suited for dancing or relaxing.

To give this classic the definitive reissue treatment, we enlisted Abbey Road Studios’ own Miles Showell for a special half-speed master cut. Having already worked his sonic magic on our Arthur Verocai reissue, Miles once again delivers an audio experience full of richness, clarity, and depth—elevating this already stellar album to a new level.

This edition is available in multiple formats: standard and half-speed mastered black vinyl, plus limited edition rose and mint-green coloured vinyl inspired by the bold, cocktail-soaked glamour of the cover. A glorious toast to ’80s excess and timeless Brazilian brilliance.
