1970年代、キューバ音楽シーンはその肥沃さを存分に発揮していた。FA-5が1976年に発表したセルフタイトル・アルバムは、まさに当時のミュージシャンたちから溢れ出るエネルギーと生命力を体現する作品であり、Mr Bongoによる〈Cuban Classics〉シリーズの最新リリースとなる一枚だ。ラテン・ロック、ファンク、ソウル、ディスコ、アフロ・キューバン・リズムが融合した、バラエティに富んだ魅力的なサウンドを展開する。

冒頭を飾るファンク全開の名曲は、強烈なベースラインと歓喜に満ちたホーン、そしてドラムブレイクが炸裂し、ダンスフロアを一瞬で沸かせるキラーチューンとして知られている。

アルバム全体は、ジャンルを自在に横断する構成となっており、ある楽曲ではウエストコースト的なラテン・ロック〜AOR的なグルーヴが漂い、また別の楽曲ではバレアリックな浮遊感とコズミックな美しさを感じさせる一方、ファズの効いたファンク・ロックやブレイクビーツも飛び出すなど、多彩なスタイルが交錯する。中でも特筆すべきは、ラテン・ディスコ・ファンク調のナンバーで、コモドアーズの名曲「Brick House」のカバーへと展開していく驚きの展開。愛され続けるクラシックに対する魅力的なオルタナティブ解釈が光る。

国営レーベルAreito Recordsからリリースされた本作は、Nestor Caballeroのディレクションのもと、Aneiro TañoとOsvaldo Caraballosoとの共同アレンジで制作された。プロデュースは多作で知られるTony Tañoが担当し、録音はJuan Pablo Torres、Los Reyes 73、Grupo Los Yoyi、Raúl Gómezなど、Cuban Classicsシリーズにも登場してきた錚々たるアーティストたちと仕事を重ねてきたTony Lopezが手がけている。

隠れた名盤として知られるこの一枚は、どんなレコードコレクションにも彩りを加える存在だ。

Now reissued as part of Mr Bongo’s Cuban Classics series, this under-the-radar gem blends Latin rock, funk, soul, disco, and Afro-Cuban rhythms into a vibrant, genre-defying experience.

Opening with a funk-driven standout track powered by an infectious bassline, exuberant horn lines, and bursts of breakbeats, the album sets a high-energy tone right from the start—one that’s destined to light up any dancefloor.

As the record unfolds, it glides through styles with ease. Some tracks lean into West Coast Latin rock and AOR vibes, while others explore dreamy, cosmic soundscapes with Balearic undertones or distorted funk-rock breaks. A clear highlight is the Latin disco-funk tune that transforms into a brilliant reinterpretation of the Commodores’ classic “Brick House”—a bold and fresh take that reimagines a timeless favorite.

Originally released on the state-run Areito Records, the album was directed by Nestor Caballero and arranged in collaboration with Aneiro Taño and Osvaldo Caraballoso. Prolific producer Tony Taño helmed the project, with recording handled by Tony Lopez—renowned for his work with Juan Pablo Torres, Los Reyes 73, Grupo Los Yoyi, Raúl Gómez, and many other Cuban legends featured in this series.

A soulful and versatile rarity, this album is a welcome addition to any record collection.
